They're not racists, just cowards

So two arguably white washed movies are in the theater are raising questions about how Hollywood treats non African American minorities and if Disney actually value the diversity its theme parks proclaim.

Both “Prince of Persia” and “The Last Airbender” have having predominately white casts, Prince of Persia, being set in Persia is seen as particularly egregious for not having a single significant cast or crew member of Middle Eastern descent. “Airbender,” is under fire for casting white actors in roles that were originally based on Inuit Indians. In that case film makers went through great effort reproduce ships, costumes and even hair cuts in the cartoon series, but clearly and intentionally whitened up the cast.

I really wouldn't care if Hollywood weren’t so clearly being hypocrites. Disney producing “Prince of Persia,” Disney, which gave us “It’s a small world,” and runs a massive diversity program litters the web with phrases “Disney|ABC Television Group strives to entertain and inform viewers in a way that reflects the vast diversity of our world,” (Emphasis theirs) gave us a story about Persia with a Jewish actor in the title role. There is no higher level of hypocrisy than saying, “We value diversity, just not in front of the camera when we could possibly lose money by casting an ethnically authentic actor in a lead role of a movie franchise.”

But something in this story sounds familiar... oh yeah, Disney did the same thing in 1992 when they released the Aladdin where every single character was voiced by white people, and this was an animated film where you never saw the actors and none of the actors' names or appearance were used to promote the film.

These are summer tent pole films by an establishment that is unabashedly liberal and tells us how to live our lives, and that we should be diverse tolerant people that aren’t living up to their values. To use a story telling phrase “Don’t tell us diversity is important to you, show us.” Oh, it’s important for me to accept diversity, but not important enough for you to build a big movie around an unknown star of non-Caucasian descent? I’m sorry Disney I didn’t realize you were one of those people who supports things, but won’t pay, do, or risk anything to make what you allegedly believe happen but at the same time want me to live by the values that you yourself won’t adhere to. Thanks, thanks for clearing that up for me Hollywood. I'm sure all those actors of Asian and Middle-Eastern descent don't mind your glaring levels of hypocrisy and are more than happy to take bit roles while hoping to be land one of the five decent roles for non-African American minorities that Hollywood creates every year.
